Laundry
Instead of using one laundry hamper or basket and then having to sort
whites/darks/others from a pile the size of Mt. Everest before doing a load of
laundry, try this trick.  Replace the hamper with three load size bins.  I use
Sterilite 64qt clear bins.  Label each bin either whites/lights, blues/darks, and
other.   In my case other is reds/pinks/purples.  Then when family members put
their dirty clothes away they automatically are sorted.  Once a bin or basket is full
just grab the bin and throw the clothes in the wash.  This trick not only saves time
but helps you judge when its necessary to do the wash.

Dresser drawers
Do you children put their laundry away by stacking it on their dresser because
there is no room in their drawers?  If so, then the old adage less is more is really
true.  Go through their drawers and pull out anything too small/or big, stained,
t
orn, or they just plain don't wear.  Donate these items.  Designate drawers for
specific items:  underware/socks/pjs, tops, and pants.  Once there is space for
clothes you will be amazed at how easy they are to put away.

Kitchen Cabinets
Does emptying the dishwasher take a degree in computer aided design just to fit
all your glasses, plates and storage containers in to your cupboard spaces?  If
you are spending time stacking glasses or rearranging items just to fit them all in
then it
's time for a purge.  Get rid of the dinky orange juice glasses no one uses
or the coffee mug with the drug company logo of a drippy nose.  You don't have
to keep these items just because they are still "good".  Donate or recycle and
because nice glass wear is inexpensive get rid of all the mismatched stuff and
treat yourself to a new 16 piece set for $7.99 at Target or Linen and Things.

Garage
Keep a bin labeled "Donation" in your garage.  As you come across items that no
longer fit or are no longer being used transfer them to your donation bin.  Then
when "Jane" from ARC calls your donation is ready to go.  This helps keep the
incoming from overtaking the outgoing.

Saving Items for a garage sale
Unless you are someone rare who actually enjoys having a garage sale forgo
this unique type of torture for the quick, easy, convenient, and free pick up of
donating.  Not only will your items be going to a good cause but the room and
stress they are no longer "renting from you" will more than make up for the
money they may bring in.
